Sales Management Angels
A senior sales leader working alongside you
Think of a Sales Management Angel as a mountain guide for your sales organisation.
The guide does not climb the mountain for you. You remain responsible for the company, the team and the decisions. But you have someone alongside you who has travelled this terrain before, helping you choose the route, recognise risks early, deal with difficult passages and make better decisions when the way forward is not obvious.
A Sales Management Angel embeds into the reality of your sales organisation and works primarily alongside the person ultimately responsible for commercial performance, typically the founder, CEO or Head of Sales.
This is not a consultant observing the company from the outside.
It is a senior, hands-on role alongside the entrepreneur.
Weekly rhythm
It starts with the weekly reality of sales
In many companies, the Sales Management Angel participates in the weekly sales meeting, often a focused 30-minute management routine. Together with the founder or sales leader and the team, the Angel helps review:
- What needs to happen this week?
- Which opportunities are moving, and which are stuck?
- Where does management intervention make a difference?
- Which commitments were made last week?
- Which deals deserve deeper attention?
- What does the pipeline tell us about the months ahead?
The objective is not for the Angel to run the meeting forever. It is to help establish the management discipline, questions and behaviours that allow the organisation to run it effectively without external support.
Following the commercial reality
And then goes wherever the real problem is
A pipeline review may reveal that a major opportunity needs work.
The next step might be a session with the account owner to map stakeholders and determine how to improve the company's position with each of them.
It might be preparing an important negotiation, reviewing a proposal, working on a new market entry, interviewing a prospective sales hire, redesigning the sales process, preparing the CEO for a Board discussion about the forecast, or questioning whether sales targets are realistic given the available team capacity.
The Sales Management Angel follows the commercial reality of the company rather than working through a predefined consulting checklist.
In the room when it matters
Not a behind-the-scenes advisor
A Sales Management Angel is sufficiently experienced to represent the company alongside its management.
When useful, the Angel can participate directly in meetings with customers, prospects, distributors, partners, suppliers, investors or Board members.
This can include preparing and attending a strategically important client meeting, supporting a difficult negotiation, participating in a distributor review or presenting commercial issues alongside management at a Board meeting.
The Angel is not there merely to tell the entrepreneur what to do afterwards.
Sometimes the most effective way to transfer experience is to do it together.
Scope of work
From individual opportunities to the sales organisation itself
The work can move continuously between immediate commercial priorities and the longer-term development of the sales organisation. The same management disciplines developed through the Sales Management Academy provide a framework for the work:
Go-to-Market focus
Which markets, segments and customers should we pursue, and where should we deliberately not spend resources?
Sales organisation & roles
What structure, responsibilities, territories, channels and resources do we need as the company grows?
Sales process & pipeline
How do we create a common sales process, meaningful stages, qualification discipline and a pipeline management system that management can actually use?
Forecasting & deal management
How do we understand what is really happening in the pipeline, improve forecast reliability and intervene effectively in important opportunities?
Targets, capacity & compensation
What can the organisation realistically deliver? How should targets, resources and incentives support the company's objectives?
Leadership & performance management
How do we coach salespeople, create accountability, address underperformance and develop the team?
Cross-functional execution
How should Sales work with Marketing, Product, Customer Success, Operations and management to remove barriers to growth?
Scaling & international expansion
What needs to change as the company enters new markets, adds channels, recruits people or becomes more organisationally complex?
The priorities are different for every company, and they change as the company develops.
How it works
A flexible relationship, not a consulting project
There is normally no large consulting project to approve and no predetermined number of days to consume.
At the beginning of the relationship, the entrepreneur and Sales Management Angel agree on the immediate priorities and establish a working rhythm.
From there, involvement is deliberately flexible.
A typical mandate may include the weekly sales meeting plus additional sessions when there is something important to work on. Some weeks may require little more than the regular management meeting. Other periods, such as a major negotiation, recruitment, market entry or strategic account, may require substantially more involvement.
Only the time actually worked is timesheeted. Further meetings and activities are agreed together as they become necessary.
There is no required duration. Some relationships last six months. Others continue for several years as the challenges evolve from founder-led selling to building a team, managing growth and expanding internationally.
The company can stop the collaboration at any time.
Built to make you independent
The objective is autonomy
The Sales Management Angel is deliberately not there to become indispensable.
The objective is to transfer experience, establish management practices and build the internal capability that enables the entrepreneur and the organisation to manage sales themselves.
That is why we are comfortable being deeply involved, including in real opportunities and real customer meetings.
We work alongside you today so that you need us less tomorrow.
Ready to work on what is holding sales back?
Bring us the challenge. You do not need to diagnose the solution before talking to us. Tell us what is not working, what needs to change or where you want to go next. We will start there.
